What is Abdominoplasty or Tummy Tuck?

It is a surgical procedure to remove excess skin and fat from the abdomen and to enhance physical beauty by tightening the muscles of the abdominal wall. This procedure can be combined with Bilateral Breast Augmentation, Liposuction & Facelift.

Who is the ideal candidate?

The ideal candidate for abdominoplasty is anyone with loose skin and excess fat in the upper tummy, excess fatty tissue especially in the lower abdomen and flanks, damaged lower abdominal skin (especially women with stretch marks after multiple pregnancies) & those with ‘loosening’ or ‘bulging’ of the abdomen caused by stretching of the muscles and tissue of the abdominal wall that is deeper to the skin and fat layer.

How the procedure done?

The procedure involves excising all the skin and fat layer below the umbilicus, closure of the weakened abdominal wall muscles and the hernia if it is present. In ladies, this will enhance their hour glass figure. The skin above the umbilicus is now stretched and sutured to the hair bearing skin in the pubis. The umbilicus is now brought out to its new location through a new defect made out in the skin and sutured in place. The patient will have 3 tubes coming out of the operation site to collect excess blood and fluids that will ooze for a day or two. These tubes will be removed once the discharge is minimal. This procedure takes about 2 to 3 hours.

What can you expect after the operation?

Blood clots and fluid collections (seromas) within the operative site may occur. Deep vein
thrombosis is blood clots within the leg veins, and these may occur in obese patients who
refuse to move about after the operation. Lower limb compression garments will be applied
for 1 week, and the patient mobilized the very next day after the operation to reduce the
probability of this complication occurring. You can expect some discomfort for which you
will be given tablets / injections. Besides, other complications may occur though this has
been rare because patients who are not suitable for this procedure and of high risk are
advised against it. Skin infection and skin necrosis may occur around the pubis area but this
is rare. The patient will need to be in hospital up to 2 to 3 days after the procedure.

What is the significance of the procedure?

Patient can expect improvements in their figure, improved posture, some relief of back pain, improved personal hygiene, clearing of infection in skin folds of the overhanging abdominal apron and enhanced sexual function. Women can expect to get back the figure they had before their pregnancy through this procedure.

What is Otoplasty/Pinnaplasty?

Otoplasty or Pinnaplasty is surgical procedure to reposition prominent ears by setting them back closer to the side of the head.

Who is the ideal candidate?

The ideal candidate is people with prominent ears either adults or children (5 years and above).

How the procedure done?

A small incision is made at the back of the ear close to the grove between the ear and the side of the head to expose the ear cartilage. The surgeon will then remove some skin behind the ear and sculpt the cartilage (part of the cartilage is folded or removed), and allow the ear to bend back towards the side of the head. The incision is closed with sutures after the surgery. This procedure will be carried out under local anaesthetic but in young children a general anaesthetic is usually required and this surgery takes about 2 to 3 hours on a day procedure.

What can you expect after the operation?

A small protective dressing is usually worn after the surgery until the stitches are removed at between 5-10 days after the surgery. You need to wear a protective head-band or bandage at night when sleeping to avoid the ears from being bent forward. Scars usually settle well but on rare occasions it can become red and lumpy & require further treatment. Infection is not common, but if this occurs it would require treatment with antibiotics and
regular dressing changes.

What is the significance of the procedure?

Prominent ears can be successfully reshaped and this can increase one’s self confidence. This procedure also helps to protect the affected child from being the victim of bullying in school.

What is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure to re-shape the nose by reducing or increasing the size of the nose and to improve its appearance.

Who are the ideal candidates?

The ideal candidates are those physically healthy, psychologically stable and realistic in their expectations, interested to enhance their appearance and self-confidence, want to correct nose birth defects, suffer deformities arising from injury and want relieve from nasal obstruction.

How the procedure is done?

The procedure usually involves incisions made inside the nostrils. It may entails removing the hump, changing the shape of the tip or bridge of the nose or narrowing the width of the nostrils. After the operation, the treated areas are bandaged and a splint is put on to compress the skin onto the deeper tissues. This helps prevent fluid collections and to ensure an even contour of the skin. This has to be applied for at least 1 week. The procedure takes about 1 to 2 hours. You need to stay only 1 night at the hospital or it can be performed as a Day Care under local anaesthesia (with or without sedation).

What can you expect at the time after operation?

Complications are usually minor and infrequent. You can expect to have bruising and swelling particularly around the eyes which will take about 3 weeks to settle. The numbness may occur and will disappear slowly during the next few months. There is always a possibility of infection or a reaction to the anaesthesia. Slight bleeding and drainage of mucus and old blood are common for a few days after the surgery or after removing the dressing.

What is the significance of the procedure?

This procedure can make a great difference on your nose appearance that satisfies your look and gives you self-confidence.

What is Thread Lift?

A thread lift is minimally invasive procedure used to lift and realign sagging tissue, while adding some definition to facial contours by using temporary sutures. Instead of removing the patient’s loose facial skin surgically, the surgeon will simply suspends it by stitching up portions of it. This has the effect of pulling the skin back slightly and therefore lifting and tightening the face. In addition to being ideal for lifting the skin, threads combat aging in another way: by provoking the body’s “healing response” (Biostimulation) and causing the body to direct large surges of collagen to treated areas.

Who is the ideal candidate?

This procedure is suitable for people with minimal signs of ageing who need just a small lift (usually women between 35 and 45). Others include those who have had some relapse from a previous procedure such as facelift/neck lift.

Different thread lifts procedures:
  • Silhouette threads made of a non-absorbable polypropylene strand. They contain a
number of sutures interspersed with tiny “cones” that are adept at grabbing tissue.
This allows the threads to gather more skin, producing a more noticeable lift to the
cheeks and jowls that lasts up to 5 years.
  • Happy Lift (Revitalizing) is monofilament, absorbable skin support/filling thread of
synthetic origin. The Happy Lift, sutures interact with the tissues with a double
    action:
    1. Lifting action for the support & repositioning of the tissues.
    2. Revitalising action stimulating synthesis of collagen, hyaluronic acid and elastin.
Furthermore, a fibrous capsule occurs around the inserted thread that prolongs the lifting
effect and maintains the skin traction. It also protects the thread from hydrolysis, extending
    its permanence in the tissue.
What can you expect after the operation?

Swelling and bruising may occur and can be prevented with ice packs. Movements are
strictly restricted by taping the face (for about 1 week), especially the area that has been
operated. The patient is advised to sleep on the back for a week. Otherwise, it will undo the
effect of the procedure. Finally, patient should avoid excessive mouth opening and massage
on the operated site for about 3 weeks. Some patients experience numbness in the treated
area, which usually subsides within 1 week of the procedure.

What is the significance of thread lift?

Thread lift have become popular because there is a reduced procedural and recovery time,
and patient shows an immediate satisfaction with treatment outcome. Finally, general
anaesthesia is not required and risk of complication is very low.

What is Lip Enhancement?

Incisions are marked along natural lines in the upper and lower eyelid. These incisions are extended into the “crows feet” (i.e. smile lines), at the outer edge of the eye. Through this incision surplus fat is removed and excess skin and sagging muscle will be removed. The procedure takes about 1 to 2 hours. Blepharoplasty can be performed as a Day Care under local anaesthesia (with or without sedation).

What can you expect after the operation?

You will have bruising and swelling around the eyes for a few days that will subside. Ice packs will help to reduce this. Normally after surgery, some suture strips will be applied as support to the eyelids. The sutures are removed in 1 week. Some bruising and swelling around your eyes may last 2 or 3 weeks. You may also have temporary blurred vision and excessive tear production. There will be scars along the natural skin lines and creases but
will usually fade with time and become barely noticeable.

What is the significance of the procedure?

What is Breast Lift?

Breast lift, also known as Mastopexy is a surgical procedure to remove excess skin and the breast tissue is reshaped to raise the droopy breasts.

Who is the ideal candidate?

The ideal candidate is woman with droopy/saggy breast of any size and wants to enhance the body contour for personal reasons.

How the procedure done?

Breast reduction surgery is usually done under general anesthesia. Pleats of surplus skin are removed through incision from underneath the breast, the breast itself is remodeled into a tighter cone and the nipples are repositioned at a higher level so that they lie at the points of tightened breasts. If the breasts are too small as well as droopy, their size can be increased during the surgery by placing breast implants underneath the tightened breasts. This procedure takes 3 to 4 hours. The patient needs to be hospitalized for a night.

What can you expect after the operation?

What is the significance of the procedure?

Breast Lift can reshape the saggy/droopy breasts into one which looks more youthful and feels more firm. Mastopexy can also reduce the size of areola (the darker skin surrounding the nipple) to keep them in proportion to the newly shaped breasts.

What is Face Lift?

Facelift also known as Rhytidectomy is a procedure used to counteract the effects of aging by tightening the tissue beneath the skin of the cheek, jaw, and neck. If you have sagging eyebrows & wrinkles of the forehead then you should perhaps consider an endoscopic brow lift. A Rhytidectomy may be performed alone or in combination with a forehead / eyelid lift (Blepharoplasty) or nose surgery (Rhinoplasty), Liposuction, Abdominoplasty & Breast Lift.

Who is the ideal candidate?

The ideal candidate is one whose face and neck has begun to sag, but whose skin still has some elasticity and whose bone structure is strong & well defined. Besides, those with loose skin with fine wrinkles, freckles & rough areas will benefit from this surgery. This procedure mostly done by patients who are in their 40’s to 60’s and also people who are in their 70’s or 80’s.

How the procedure done?

Incisions are usually made above the hair line at the temples. This incision lines follow the natural crease, in front of the ear and extended into the hairline above and behind the ear. Beneath the skin is a layer of muscle (platysma) & fibrous attachments that is pulled up and back to tighten the face. The tensioned tissue is secured to bone behind and in front of the ear. The surgeon will then separate the skin from the underlying fat and muscle. The incision is then closed using sutures so that it is lifted upwards and backwards. This procedure is mostly carried out under general / local anaesthesia & the patient would be advised to spend a night in the hospital.

What can you expect after the operation?

After the surgery, there will be some bruising and swelling and this tends to descend into the neck. However, a face lift dressing is applied to put pressure on the incision line & surgical area to limit the swelling & bruising effect. Discomfort is mild and can be controlled with Paracetamol. It is also normal to have some numbness of the skin of cheeks and ears. These signs will usually disappear in a bout few weeks or months.

What is the significance of the procedure?
